After a disappointing defeat in their last game,
Grand Canyon University Women's Lacrosse bounced back in a big way, stampeding to a 17-5 victory over Saint Mary's College of California Sunday afternoon at
Prescott Field on the GCU Campus.
Â
"We came out with the right energy and were clicking all over the field. Transitions is something that we worked a lot on, and it looked great today." said
GCU Head Coach Tracy Ramirez. The Lopes came out firing on all cylinders, as the lopes stampeded to a 17-5 victory.
Â
GCU's
Shaylee Smith led the charge Sunday with two goals, four assists, and six draw controls, but she had plenty of help, since the Lopes had 11 different players score at least one goal.
Â
"The team was able to play solid, clean team defense without getting too many fouls," said Ramirez.  Overall attitude, work ethic, and teamwork was better today than in previous games, and that's what gave us the win."
The Lopes' last tuneup for the Western Women's Lacrosse League happens this Saturday, March 26 as they host their Tucson rivals, the University of Arizona, in an 11AM faceoff at GCU
Soccer Stadium on the GCU campus. Pregame festivities will include honoring the Lopes' two seniors, prior to faceoff. Admission is FREE.
