Seven different players each found the try zone as the
Grand Canyon University Women's Rugby team moved to a 2-0 record – both overall and in Pacific Desert Region Conference play - with a 43-0 shutout of archrival Arizona State University in the team's home opener Saturday evening at
GCU Soccer Stadium on the GCU campus. It was the ninth straight win for the Lopes over the Sun Devils in the series. It was also the Lopes' eighth consecutive regular season victory – dating back to January of last season.
The Lopes spent the majority of the night in ASU territory. The Lopes built a 19-0 lead at the break thanks to tries from
Angel Lucero,
Atley Boyd and the first of the year for returning starter
Kloe Williams. The second half was a repeat of the first, with
Alizah Yrigolla,
Kat Bambrick,
Joanne Marie Alvarez and
Lauren Campbell all crossing the end line for scores.
Samantha Garcia went 4-for-6 in 2-point conversions.
The Lopes' four-match homestand continues this Sunday, February 11 when the Lopes continue PDRC play against the University of California-Santa Barbara. Kickoff is scheduled for 10AM at the
GCU Practice Soccer Field.
