GCU Club Roundnet finishes 2nd at USA Independent Roundnet Tournament

Lopes go undefeated in pool play, win 9 out of 10 matches en route to runnerup finish in Orlando

Mowing down nine different opponents over the span of 36 hours to get to that point, the Grand Canyon University Club Roundnet team reached the championship match of the USA Independent Roundnet Tournament in Orlando, Florida. The Lopes finished 2nd in the tourney after a 7-3 loss to Atlanta Saturday afternoon in the championship match.

The Lopes spent Day 1 of the tournament in 4th gear, winding up one of only three teams (London, Ontario, Canada and Houston, Texas being the other) to win all six pool-play matches (four of them in 7-0 shutout victories) in the Kingdom Come Pool to reach Saturday's Round of 16. That set up the Lopes' tightest match of the tournament - a nip-and-tuck 7-6 win with Tampa, Florida. The Lopes then handled the host team from Orlando in the quarterfinals, 9-4, before sending London to its first loss of the tournament in the semis, 8-5. Standing between the Lopes and the title was Atlanta, who had won five pool-play matches before finishing a perfect 9-0 in the tournament with the championship match win over GCU.
