For the second time in the last five seasons, the
Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked 2
nd in the final National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Rawlings Division I Poll. It's only the 3
rd time in the program's D1 history that the Lopes have hit the No. 2 slot in the national rankings and
the first time they've been there since April of last year. It's also a jump of six spots from the previous poll.
Â
In addition, the Lopes' Division 2 team finished 7
th in the final NCBA Division 2 Poll, marking the first time in the program's history that both the D1 and D2 teams finished a season among the NCBA Top 10. The Division 2 team
reached the NCBA D2 World Series for the third consecutive year last month.
Â
For the D1 Lopes, it's an official return to the form that had made them one of the five most dangerous club baseball programs in the nation before the COVID-19 pandemic. The trip to Alton, Illinois two weeks ago
was the first time since 2019 that the Lopes had captured one of the eight coveted berths in the NCBA D1 World Series. The Lopes made the most of it, winning four of their first five games in reaching the championship game,
ultimately finishing 2nd after their second tournament loss to eventual champion Penn State University.
