The Grand Canyon University Women's Club Soccer team dominated with a 3-0 win over the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks on Sunday in Flagstaff. The shutout victory came after a 3-0 loss to Arizona State University on Saturday at Colter Field on the GCU campus.
Saturday: GCU 0, ASU 3
Despite the loss in their first home match of the season, the Lopes showcased a determined and physical start by maintaining possession, controlling the ball, and setting the tone with an aggressive backline and midfield.
"I would argue that we played stronger than ASU in the first half," said GCU Head Coach Alex Martins.
Although a scoreless first half, a Lopes' misplayed ball led to ASU's first goal.
"We then let the intensity drop a bit and gave them too much respect," said Martins. "Simple mental slips led to the second goal."

Sunday: GCU 3, NAU 0
Like Saturday, GCU kept possession for much of the game Sunday afternoon. The constant back-and-forth control of the ball paid off in the 42
nd minute when junior defensive midfielder
Caitlyn Winter scored GCU's first goal after
Cienna Rush was granted a penalty kick. Winter tapped in her second goal right before halftime thanks to an assist from
Addisyn McMahon.
If two goals were not enough for Winter, she recovered the ball with 27 minutes left to strike from the corner of the box for the Lopes' third goal.
"We were more organized, had quicker transitions, and our work rate didn't falter for the entire 90 (minutes)," said Martins.
