What happens when the unmovable object meets the unstoppable force?
You get a clash of two undefeated teams.
In aÂ
rematch of last year's national quarterfinals,Â
GCU Men's Club Basketball reigned victorious over Arizona State University, 59-49, at theÂ
Canyon Activity Center on Tuesday night. The Lopes and Sun Devils played three times last year, and in addition to the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association tournament win, the Lopes also topped ASU in theÂ
championship game of the Sparky Shootout.
The first half was a back-and-forth matchup with neither team gaining control en route to a 29-24 ASU lead at halftime.
"We cleaned up our defense in the second half, forcing turnovers and capitalizing," saidÂ
Head Coach Lamont Lane. "I'm proud with how we responded under pressure."
The Lopes focused on their defense, holding the Sun Devils to only 20 points in the second half and relying on the scoring of guard/forward Jack Brackman (13 points) and guard Yeshua Brice (17 points) to kick-start the offense.
"In the second half, we picked up the intensity," said Brice. "We were missing a key piece in
Uriah Stokes, so we had to increase our energy to make up for that."
GCU plays again on Monday, February 10 against ACU Black in Glendale at 6:30PM.
