One goal-scoring spree would normally be plenty.
The Lopes got two.
Reagan Harbeck and
Deandra Dan each scored twice — with Harbeck also assisting one of Dan's goals — to lift the
Grand Canyon University Women's Club Soccer team to a 4-2 road win over Arizona State University (Maroon) in CCS Southwest Division play Sunday evening in Tempe.
The teams were tied, 1-1, at halftime before the Lopes pulled away to improve to 5-2-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
"We started and finished the game with the required intensity, but several lapses in concentration led to mistakes in a dangerous part of the field, which ultimately led to conceding twice," said
Lopes' Head Coach Alex Martins. "On the ball, we looked composed and assured that we would create chances."
Martins pointed to Lopes' freshman
Teya Bordini for providing a spark out of the right wing - especially in the second half. He also singled out Harbeck's outing, which featured a pair of goals from distance.
"Reagan scored her first goal(s) for the Purple squad, showing a willingness to create opportunities from distance," said Martins.
The Lopes host Arizona State University (Gold) on Saturday, October 24 in a battle between two teams tied for second place in the standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 8PM at Colter Field.
"There's a lot to be encouraged about heading into the match this weekend against ASU Gold," said Martins. "There's also much still to work on, which is exciting ahead of another week of training."
