Heath Kerley Headshot 8.20.25

Heath Kerley

Heath Kerley had a gym and an idea. His Old School Boxing Gym had opened down the street from the GCU campus in 2017, and as he watched both his gym and the university grow, he saw that there were a few GCU students already crossing the threshold of his gym to get trained. Kerley approached the GCU Club Sports braintrust about how to give a better opportunity for potential Lopes to become boxers, and voila! The GCU Club Boxing team was formed in 2022. Since then, the team has increased his number of pugilists to nearly 30 in four years of existence.

Surprisingly, Kerley’s success with the gym wasn’t because of his previous boxing experience, since he never boxed as an amateur nor a pro, but got involved in the sport later in life “after playing all the others”. Before Old School, Kerley was at Limelight Networks for 11 years helping develop live streaming software as an engineer and product manager. Kerley, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has been a resident of the Valley since 1988, and earned his Master’s of Business Administration from Arizona State University in 2001.

Kerley and his wife, Maggie, have two adult children, Rowan and Marshall.
