For Mike Mueller, golf isn’t just something he coaches — it’s something that has defined his life since he was six years old. A Phoenix native who has spent his entire life in the Grand Canyon State, Mueller enters his 3rd year as Ryan Woodworth’s assistant with the GCU Club Golf program, having been part of the program’s most memorable stretch, seeing the team finish 1st or 2nd in the nation for a stretch of five consecutive national tournaments from 2023 through 2025.
Mueller’s golf roots run deep. He picked up the game at age six and never stopped, playing four years at Mesa’s Red Mountain High School before going on to compete at the NCAA Division I level right here at GCU, where he was a member of the Lopes’ Men’s Golf team. That background as a Lope gives Mueller a natural connection with the student-athletes he now coaches, and his presence at the GCU Golf Course — where he currently serves as an Assistant Golf Professional alongside Woodworth — keeps him immersed in the game year-round.
Off the course, Mueller is part of GCU’s most prominent family. His pride and joy is 11-year old son Mason, and Mike is also the son of GCU President Brian Mueller, and the brother of GCU Men’s NCAA Golf Head Coach Mark Mueller & GCU Golf Course General Manager Jesse Mueller.
