He built the program from the ground up and has gone from GCU freshman to full-time head coach during those 9 years. Jeremy Phung continues to build the foundation for the GCU Club Swimming program as he heads into his 10th year. While still a student coach, Phung helped GCU officially join the Collegiate Club Swimming (CCS) league, which includes over 150 club programs across the nation. Since then, he’s led the Lopes to back-to-back CCS Western Region titles the past two seasons, and to three finishes of 7th or better at CCS Nationals the last three years, including a 2nd-place national finish in 2021.

Phung is a Grand Canyon University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sports Performance. He began swimming at the age of six and attended high school at a hometown college preparatory, Gilbert Classical Academy, where he was a three-year state swimmer and served as team captain his senior year. He also has experience swimming for the Rio Salado Swim Club and is a member of U.S. Masters, the national non-profit swimmers’ organization. As a masters swimmer, Phung finished first in his age division at the Arizona Long Course State Championship meet in 2016. Phung also has 11 years of experience as a swim instructor and coach, teaching children from the ages of three to 17.

Phung and his wife, Sarah Jacobson, celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary this year, this time with an extra one around the house - their first baby girl, Olivia.
