After making a triumphant return to the club he co-founded with his twin brother, Jacob, five years ago, Nicholas Windauer heads into his second season as GCU Triathlon’s Head Coach. As freshmen, Nick and Jake came to GCU from their home state of Montana, and when they didn’t find a triathlon club on campus, took it upon themselves to start one. By the time they graduated in 2020, they had made GCU Triathlon Club a competitive force in the region.

Nicholas’s triathlon career actually started a few months earlier than his brother when their father, Mike, a professional cyclist himself, challenged Nick to join in his first race back in their home state of Montana.  Before long, both brothers were joining Mike for triathlons, and learning to love the sport.  Nicholas’s dedication to the sport eventually led him to train with the Olympic Development team in northern California, and to a 10th-place finish at the 2017 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships.

Today, after graduating with honors with a bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis in pre-med from GCU, Nicholas is currently at Midwestern University working to become a full-time dentist, and is also husband to Hannah, but when he heard that GCU Triathlon needed a coach, he jumped at the chance to add that to his list of activities. Once again, Nick instills the love of triathlon in others at GCU by training them for success at whatever level of skill they’re at, and exhorting his charges to improve at their individual pace by becoming mentally and physically sound and staying true to themselves and their spirit.
