For a first-year head coach, Shane Kuyper’s debut season with GCU Women’s Club Basketball left little to be desired. Entering his 2^nd year at the helm, Kuyper guided the Lopes to an 18-8 overall record in 2025-26 that included an AWBL Championship game appearance, the program’s first-ever NIRSA Region VI title, and a run to the NIRSA National Semifinals in Madison, Wisconsin.
 
Kuyper’s basketball background includes playing experience at the Division I level, where he was a member of the Arizona State University men’s basketball team for two seasons. After earning his Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree from ASU (with concentrations in Sociology and Parks & Recreation Management), Kuyper spent four years as Director of Basketball Tours with News Release Basketball, managing international collegiate basketball programs before pivoting to athlete development work. He founded Identity Hoops International in 2018, a global organization focused on mindset, leadership, and identity development for athletes and coaches; The Healthy Competitor in 2024, which equips high performers to compete from a place of health and emotional well-being; and Kuyper Sports in 2025 — a reimagining of the Tom Kuyper Basketball Camp that his father, Tom, founded in the Phoenix area in the early 1980s and that Shane grew up attending and eventually running.
 
A lifelong Valley resident, Kuyper and his wife, Coley, are proud parents of seven kids.
