“Movin’ on up” is something Reid Miller has been doing ever since he first joined the GCU Ice Hockey fold in 2021. He became a head coach for the first time in 2023 for the Lopes’ Men’s Division 2 team, and in 2024-25, he coached his first college women’s hockey game as the new head man of the Lopes’ Women’s Hockey team. Miller now begins Year #3 at that post with huge expectations on the heels of back-to-back WWCHL titles and a pair of ACHA D1 Women’s Hockey Championships appearances.

There isn’t an aspect of the Lopes’ Hockey program that Miller hasn’t been a part for the past four years. Miller began his coaching career as a Lopes’ assistant in 2021, helping Danny Roy in all aspects of the Lopes’ Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 Men’s Hockey squads for two years. He then ascended to the D2 head job in December of 2022, and promptly led the Lopes to the 2023 WCHC Conference title.
Miller has been working towards his current success ever since first picking up a hockey stick at the age of 5 while growing up in Flagstaff. Miller and his family moved down Interstate 17 to Phoenix when Reid was 11, and while attending Williams Field High School in Gilbert, he impressed enough scouts while playing club hockey and participating in the USA National Development Camp that he was drafted by teams in both the Western and North American Hockey Leagues. He played one year for the NAHL’s Aston Rebels before settling in for three seasons with the Connecticut Junior Rangers of the National Collegiate Development Conference. After being named an NCDC All-Star in his second year, Miller decided to hang up the skates for good after the 2020-21 season.
Along the way, Miller has spent time as a strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Titans’ Youth Hockey team, and currently owns and runs a personal training business in Gilbert. Miller also earned his Level 4 Coaching Certificate from USA Hockey in December of 2022. Miller also found his wife at GCU as he and the former Hailey Yanez, a GCU Club Sports Athletic Trainer, were wed in May of 2025.
