Lindsey Mahoney heads into her 7^th season as the Lopes’ Women’s Rugby Head Coach, and continues to raise the bar to historic heights each year. Just since 2022, Mahoney and the Lopes have won back-to-back PDRC Championship matches; reached the semifinals CRAA National 7's Tournament twice; reached their first-ever national championship match last April after finishing 3^rd the year before.

Mahoney began her rugby career across town at Arizona State University in 2011, making a name for herself as a player, and graduating from ASU as one of their top rugby athletes. Mahoney was also the Sun Devils’ Women’s Rugby team’s vice president. Mahoney then took her talents and skills from the university level to a national level, joining the Stars Rugby 7s where she was coached by some of the top coaches in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Since then, she has played and coached rugby at various levels both in and outside of the country. Mahoney began her coaching career in 2012 with the Scottsdale Wolves’ youth team and continued to magnify her rugby experience all throughout Arizona. Mahoney held a captain’s role on the Tempe Women’s 7s for three seasons beginning in 2013, played for the Tempe Women’s 15s backline starting in 2015, and coached the Arizona Bobcats Select Side Women’s 7s in 2016.

Mahoney is passionate about developing the sport for girls in the United States, and upon her return from playing in Ireland over the 2018-19 season, she saw making a commitment to coaching the Grand Canyon University program as a next step. Mahoney wholeheartedly believes in the vision and goals that GCU values and is excited to help grow the rugby program based on the foundation that the university has laid out.
