Alyssa Dominguez continues to work her way up the GCU Club Sports ladder. Having taken on many roles, including as a GCU Club Swimming assistant coach for two seasons and the GCU Women’s Water Polo Interim Head Coach in the spring of 2023 (all while being a graduate assistant), she now occupies a full-time position as a Club Sports Operations Coordinator.
Dominguez earned Phung’s trust and not only his respect but the respect of her teammates while competing all four years of her GCU career with the Lopes’ Club Swim team, qualifying for CCSC Nationals each of her four seasons. During that time, Dominguez also helped the team set new records in the 200 breaststroke and the 800 freestyle relay (which she anchored).
When Dominguez was asked to step in at the last minute to oversee the Lopes’ Water Polo program, it wasn’t completely new territory, since water polo was one of three high school sports (the others being swimming and basketball) Alyssa competed in while earning an International Baccalaureate diploma from the prestigious Le Jardin Academy in Kailua in her native Hawaii.
The Kaneohe native, who has been swimming since the age of 8, came to the mainland in 2018 to attend GCU, graduating in the spring of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Sports Performance and a minor in Sports Psychology. She recently finished up a Master of Science in Leadership degree online with GCU.
