He’s played, he’s watched, he’s learned, he’s led. Now, after spending the last four years in the Lopes’ pool, GCU graduate Justin Wong begins his coaching career as the new head coach for GCU Water Polo.
Wong hails from one of the more talent-rich cities for water polo, San Diego, California. A graduate of Mt. Carmel High School in SoCal, Wong helped lead his team to two CIF title runs and earned an all-league second team nomination before bringing his talent to GCU in 2021. Once on campus, Wong became a key part for the new program, setting the team record for career goals, and being team captain his junior and senior seasons. His leadership grew as he assisted former head coach Ty Dutcher with practices and workouts for both men’s and women’s teams, all while participating in the GCU Club Sports Leadership program.
Wong earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Advertising with a minor in Graphic Design this past April from GCU while running his own freelance photography business and working as a digital marketing coordinator for the Sportfishing Association of America.
