GCU defeated second-ranked University of Colorado and no. six Colorado State as they opened the 2017 season this past weekend at Prescott field, Phoenix AZ.

Cam Wengreniuk (St. Francis Xavier, Alberta) scored six times and Austin Ekeroth (Rancho Bernardo, San Diego CA) added two goals and two assists in the 14-11 win over the Buffalos. LSM Jack Lamey (Union, Camus WA.) collected six ground balls and scored a goal as eight Lopes found the back of the net Thursday night.

Defense was on display in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Rams. Rutgers transfer goalie Alex Larson (Chaparral, Scottsdale AZ) made 15 saves, the final one with nine seconds left to stop a late CSU push. Wengreniuk's four goals led GCU as Ekeroth, Joe Balestrieri (Rancho Bernardo, San Diego CA) and Sean McDonald (Holy Ghost, Pennsbury PA) each added one.

Lopes return to play March 4 vs. Virginia Tech and March 6 vs. BYU. Both at home.
