The Grand Canyon University Men's Lacrosse team is ranked No. 13 in the latest Under Armour Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches' Poll. It's a jump of three spots from the No. 16 position the Lopes held in last week's poll. It's also the 76th straight time (dating back to Week 7 of the 2013 season) that GCU has graced the national rankings. The Lopes remain one of six SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Arizona State is 3rd, Chapman is 5th, Concordia-Irvine is 7th, Arizona is at No. 15, and Southern California is 19th).
The Lopes knew that their upset victory over the weekend against Concordia-Irvine (that dropped CUI out of the MCLA Top 3) would improve their national standing. However, even though the poll was released earlier today, the poll itself was conducted prior to Utah Valley's upset overtime victory of the Lopes Tuesday, so now GCU will wait a full week to see whether or not that will possibly lower the ranking again. The Lopes are idle for the remainder of Spring Break, and won't play again until next Friday, March 29. That's when they'll host a huge Southwestern Lacrosse Conference clash against the 15th-ranked Arizona Wildcats. Opening face-off between the Lopes and Wildcats is scheduled for 7PM next Friday at GCU Stadium, and will follow the conclusion of the GCU-Arizona Women's Lacrosse Game at GCU Stadium at 4:30PM. Admission to the doubleheader is FREE.
