GCU Men's Lacrosse Slides Back to No.16 in Latest MCLA D1 Coaches' Poll

Lopes drop three places in new poll after OT loss to No. 19 Utah Valley

The Grand Canyon University Men's Lacrosse team is ranked No. 16 in the latest Under Armour Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches' Poll.  It's a drop of three positions from the No. 13 position the Lopes held in last week's poll, and it's the second time in the last three weeks that GCU has found itself in the No. 16 position in the rankings.  It's also the 77th straight time (dating back to Week 7 of the 2013 season) that GCU has been a part of the national rankings.  The Lopes remain one of six SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Arizona State is 4th, Chapman is 5th, Concordia-Irvine is 9th, Arizona is 13th, and Southern California is 25th).

The Lopes have had over a week to wonder what the 19-18 overtime loss at home during Spring Break to Utah Valley University (who moved up six spots to No. 19 in the new poll on the strength of the victory) would do to their national standing.  It also gave them more than a week to gear up for the possibility of dropping – especially knowing that regardless of where they found themselves in the poll, that their next matchup would be a golden opportunity to move back up in national respect.  That next matchup is now just a day away as the Lopes will host 13th-ranked Arizona tomorrow (Friday) night as part of a men's-women's lacrosse doubleheader at GCU Stadium on the GCU campus.  The UA-GCU Women's Lacrosse matchup will face off at 4:30 pm, and the 16th-ranked Lopes will take center stage against the Wildcats at approximately 7 pm.  Admission to the doubleheader is FREE.
