GCU Club Baseball Ranked No.2 in Final NCBA D1 Final Poll

Lopes’ historic run through NCBA World Series field ends with highest national ranking ever

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked No. 2 in the final National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Rawlings Division I Poll of the 2019-20 season.  It's a jump of two spots from the previous poll, which was released the week before the start of the 2019 NCBA D1 World Series in mid-May.  It's also the highest national ranking the Lopes have ever enjoyed, usurping the No. 3 national ranking they held at the end of last year and until late February of this season.  It's the ninth time in the last calendar year that GCU has been ranked fourth or higher in the national poll.

In the span of just six weeks, the Lopes went from unranked to one step away from being the top team in the nation thanks to a meteoric rise through their conference, their region, and the NCBA World Series. The Lopes put together a program-record 14-game winning streak in passing Arizona State and UC-San Diego in the Southern Pacific South Conference standings to win their 2nd second straight conference title, then topped UC-Santa Barbara to win their second consecutive SoPac Regional Championship. GCU continued their streak by defeating current top-5 teams Florida State, Iowa and Texas A&M to reach the championship game of the World Series for the first time, before falling to eventual first-time national champion Illinois.
