Welcome back, Lopes' Lacrosse fans.
After a long and hot summer in the valley, the Grand Canyon University Men's Lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday, beating their alumni counterparts, 20-9, on Grove Field on the GCU campus.
Going back-and-forth to start the match, the current squad found themselves with only a 9-7 lead to end the first half.
From there, the 2022 Lopes didn't look back, opening the third quarter with a quick score and staying hot, outscoring the alumni, 11-2, in the second half.
For the second year in a row, the alumni participation was outstanding, and Lopes' Head Coach Jeff Guy attributed that to the quality of individuals that the program attracts.
"It is one of my favorite workdays of the year," said Guy. "It's great to reconnect with the alumni each year in person and watch the current team perform against guys that help build this program. We really do have some tremendous alumni that are always very supportive of the program."
