Two years in the making.
Back in 2020, Grand Canyon University was set to host the Western Women's Lacrosse Playoffs, but the COVID-19 pandemic destroyed those plans by shutting down the season just over a month before that commenced.
Now, fast forward to 2022, and the Lopes' plan to host the WWLL Playoffs becomes reality this weekend. GCU will be the host site for both the Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments. Games will be held at three different fields (Prescott Field, the GCU Practice Soccer Field and Juniper Field). The first round of games is set to face off at 9AM on Saturday, April 9, with the host team, No. 8 GCU, commencing the Division 1 side of the tournament with a first-round game against top-seeded UCLA at Prescott Field. The tournament will culminate Sunday with games starting at 9AM, with the D2 championship game scheduled for 11AM at Juniper Field, and the D1 championship matchup closing out the event at 1PM at Prescott Field. Admission to the entire tournament is FREE.
