GCU Bowling finishes 10th at ITC Sectionals

Lopes struggle to gain momentum at nationals qualifier

In their sixth appearance at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier in Dallas, Texas, the Grand Canyon University Men's Bowling team placed 10th out of 20 teams.

Seeded No. 6 in the tournament, the Lopes knew they had to finish in the top four to qualify for the USBC ITC National Championships later this spring.

"The guys grinded both days, but we were never able to get any consistent momentum going," said GCU Head Bowling Coach Ben Canfield. "To compete on a national stage, we know we need to be at our best."

The Lopes finished up the weekend with a total pinfall of 12,180 over the 64 Baker games, averaging 190 pins per game.

The final competition for the Lopes this season will be the Collegiate Club National Championships from April 1-2 in Anderson, Indiana.
