The Grand Canyon University Men's Lacrosse Team faced off with the University of Utah Utes in the GCU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, falling 12-9 and extending their current losing streak to four. Their current record on the season stands at 2-6.
It was déjà vu for the Lopes early, since the Utes got out to a quick start with three unanswered goals to open the action-the fifth straight Lopes' opponent to score at least three goals in the opening quarter this month.
GCU's Kyle Capshaw stopped the bleeding for the Lopes at the two-minute mark of the opening quarter before the Utes added another pair of goals to lead after one, 5-1.
The Lopes quickly battled back to start the second period, coming within one - thanks to goals from Cam Gilmore, Cayden Flores, and Nick Whittall. The Utes added a goal at the eight-minute mark of the quarter to give them a 6-4 edge at halftime.
GCU couldn't get closer than two goals for the rest of the way, despite scoring contributions from Grayson Goodyear (twice), Whittall, Tyler Parietti and Matt Savinon.
The Lopes return to the GCU Soccer Stadium field tomorrow (Tuesday) against the University of Oregon Ducks. The game starts at 12:00 PM, and admission is FREE.
