The Grand Canyon University Men's Lacrosse Team faced off with 25th-ranked University of Oregon in the GCU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, losing 14-11 and extending their current losing streak to five. The Lopes' current record on the season stands at 2-7.
Breaking the pattern of slow starts that the Lopes experienced over the last five games, the GCU offense of Kyle Capshaw, Nick Whittall, Grayson Goodyear, and Cam Gilmore gave the Lopes a quick 4-0 lead over the Ducks seven minutes into the game. Oregon answered back with three straight to end the first quarter.
The Ducks flipped the script in the second quarter, outscoring GCU 4-1 (Tyler Parietti scored the lone GCU goal) to take a 7-5 lead at the half.
GCU's offense seemed to find its rhythm again early in the third quarter - thanks to goals from Parietti, GCU midfielder Cayden Flores and Goodyear, who scored twice in a two-minute span to wrap up the period and tie the game at 10-10.
The Ducks seemed to have more left in the tank in the final quarter, racking up four straight scores – with GCU's only answer coming from Gilmore in the final seconds.
The Lopes return to GCU Soccer Stadium Saturday, April 8 for their senior day against the University of Arizona Wildcats. The game starts at 2 PM, and admission is FREE.
