The Grand Canyon University Running Club brought home some medals and personal bests from the Hippity Hop Cottontail Dash at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria on Sunday, having athletes run and medal in both the half marathon and the 5K races. It was the last event of the spring season for the Lopes.
The event featured courses mixed of asphalt, concrete, and packed dirt that ran along the dedicated trails of the New River Trail System.
GCU's
Caleb Klinger was the second-place finisher in the 18-24 age bracket for the 5K race, finishing in 19 minutes and 49 seconds. Nathan Rose and
Cullen Visser also participated in the 5K race, finishing 5
th and 6
th, respectively.

The team had two women,
Anna Harrison and Sophie Talero, participate in the half marathon race, with both earning personal-best times. Talero's time of 1:45:00 placed her second amongst female half marathon runners in the 18-24 age group, also earning her a medal.
"It was great to get out for one more big event before the end of the year," said GCU Head Coach Anthony Vela, who also participated in the 5K, placing first in the men's 18-24 division. "It has been a really enjoyable season and we can't wait to get back to work for next year."
