Rudolph and his fellow reindeer would be proud.
 
In a field of over 400 participants, the Grand Canyon University Running Club swept the top five spots at the Run Run Rudolph 5K Run at the Peoria Sports Complex Sunday. Lopes' freshman Cade Brenner led the way, pacing the event with a finishing time of 17 minutes and 27 seconds. His nearest four competitors, though, were all wearing Lopes' purple as fellow freshman Blaise Boyer (17:45), Caleb Lillo (18:27), Lopes' Head Coach Anthony Vela (18:47) and Lopes' returner Stylianos Regas (18:52) all hit the tape with 90 seconds of Brenner. They were the only runners in the 5K to break the 20-minute mark.
 
In addition to those five, the Lopes also had the top female in the race as Cottonwood native Kaylee Wettemann hit the line at 22 minutes and 32 seconds – not only leading the females in the race but also qualifying for a 14^th-place finish overall. Just seconds behind Wettemann was fellow Lopes' freshman Isabelle Kristensen (22:58), who was 3^rd among females and 17^th overall.
 
Seven seconds were all that stood between all 11 Lopes' runners finishing in the top 100 in the event, which saw a total of 434 total participants weave their way down 83^rd Avenue and Skunk Creek Trail to get to Peoria Stadium, which was the start and finish of the race. The Lopes will kick off their spring season on February 9^th at the Runner's Den Pancake Run in Scottsdale.
