GCU Women's Club Volleyball posted a 2-2 record at the Southern California Collegiate Volleyball League in the Canyon Activity Center, beating Arizona State University and the University of Arizona while falling to Utah Valley University and Northern Arizona University.
The Lopes got the day started off with a win, beating Arizona's 'A' team in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-17.
"The energy to start the day was really good," said
GCU Head Coach Kris Naber. "We maintained consistency between both sets and kept up with the goals we had going into the tournament."
The following two matches were Lopes' losses, first to Utah Valley 'A' in three sets and then to NAU's 'A' team in two tightly contested sets (25-22, 25-23). To end the day, GCU grabbed a win in straight sets against the Sun Devils' 'A' team, and consequently finished in 2
ndon the day thanks to their earlier tie-breaking win over 3
rd-place Arizona.
"Overall, we were encouraged by the competitiveness and team chemistry throughout the day," said Naber. "We faced adversity and stayed together as a team really well, and that showed in the wins. Our losses felt winnable. There were aspects that we could control, and we'll continue to work on that as we get ready for the SCCVL Conference Championships."
Next up, the Lopes hit the road for the SCCVL Conference Championships on April 6 in Irvine, California.
