GCU Men's Lacrosse goalie Jake Hives made 12 saves as the Lopes' defense held the University of Washington en route to a 12-5 win on Colter Field on Saturday night. The victory was the Lopes' second win of the season and snapped a three-game skid.
Marked by the Hives-led defense and an offense paced by Lopes' attackman Liam Reid (2 goals, 3 assists), the GCU game plan worked right from the start, allowing them to jump out to a quick 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
An equally dominant second quarter gave the Lopes an 8-3 halftime lead, and they never looked back, allowing just two goals the rest of the way.
GCU midfielder Cameron Seymour and attackman Kyle Capshaw led the way with two goals apiece, while Caleb Brager, Kai Cook, Vaughn Cwik, Grant Lasho and Nik Mips each scored one goal. Midfielder. Lopes' senior Matt Hartig won 11 of 21 faceoffs, scooped six ground balls, and scored a goal of his own on a fast break midway through the first quarter.
The remaining six games of the Lopes' schedule, starting with the University of Arizona Wildcats in Tucson on March 23, feature exclusively divisional opponents. The Lopes' next home matchups are back-to-back games at Colter Field against UCLA and the University of Southern California on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7. First faceoffs for both games are scheduled for 1PM, and admission is FREE.
