Impressing the national audience with
a win in its first-ever appearance at the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 National Championships two weeks ago, the
Grand Canyon University D1 Men's Hockey team finished the season ranked No. 14 in the ACHA Final D1 Poll. It's the highest national ranking the Lopes have enjoyed since making the jump to Division 1 four years ago, and it's a jump of three spots from their ranking heading into nationals at the beginning of March.
The glowing ranking ends a year of historic firsts for the Lopes, joining the single-season milestones of most wins (20), highest winning percentage (.571, 20-15), most wins over nationally ranked opponents in a single season (10) as well as the national tournament berth.
"We've continued to climb in the rankings each year in D1 and finishing in the top 15 affirms to our players that the process is working," said
Lopes' Head Coach Danny Roy. "Continuing to believe in that process will lead to another step forward next season with a possible top-10 finish."
