Building off a season featuring a runner-up appearance in the
College Rugby Association of America Women's D1 Spring Championship in Houston, Texas, the GCU Women's Rugby team put together a dominant performance at the
GCU Practice Soccer Field with an 84-0 victory over the University of Arizona in their regular season opener Saturday at the GCU Practice Soccer Field on the GCU campus.
"I'm incredibly proud of the team's connection, effort and tenacity on attack," said
GCU Head Coach Lindsey Mahoney.
The Lopes' tenacious scoring attack sprinted to a 37-0 lead into halftime, with six different players finding the try zone.
Kaitlyn Pool led the first half scoring with two tries, while
Grace Kurilla, Abigail Stafford,
Kalyn Wedeven, D'Ondra Bomar and
Atley Boyd all scored once.
The second half was more of the same as Bomar, Wedeven and Stafford each scored their second try of the game.

Lauren Campbell each joined the scoring party in the second half and
Kloe Williams topped it off with two tries of her own.
"This performance was a culmination of the style of rugby we've been working to build over the past three seasons," said Mahoney. "It was exciting to see the players execute it with confidence."
GCU will play their next game against the University of California San Diego at the GCU Practice Soccer Filed on Saturday, February 15 at 11AM. Admission is FREE.
