For the first time ever, the Grand Canyon University Women's Hockey team will host the 2025 Western Women's Collegiate Hockey League Playoffs this weekend at AZ Ice Gilbert in the East Valley. The three-day tournament will feature the top four finishers from the WWCHL's regular season, which ended this past Saturday. The host Lopes (12-16 overall, 10-6 WWCHL) will actually commence the tournament at 3PM on Friday, February 21 against the top-seeded Buffaloes of the University of Colorado – just two weeks after the two teams split a two-game series at the Lopes' home ice of AZ Ice Arcadia. That game will be followed by a clash between No. 2 Colorado State University and No. 3 University of Utah at 5:45PM. The tournament will continue with two more games Saturday and culminate Sunday at 12:30PM with the championship game.
