While it wasn't as easy as the final score might indicate,
GCU Women's Rugby extended its shutout streak to five straight matches with a 55-0 victory over Claremont Colleges at
GCU Soccer Stadium on the GCU campus. The Lopes were held scoreless themselves for the first 20 minutes, then responding with 29 points over the next 20 minutes.
Joanne Alvarez kicked off the scoring for GCU with
D'Ondra Bomar,
Grace Kurilla,
Prisila Vela and
Angel Lucero following her lead with tries of their own before halftime.
"I'm so impressed with the team this season," said
GCU Head Coach Lindsey Mahoney. "They are showing incredible heart and dedication - both on and off the field."
The second half was more of the same as the Lopes cruised with tries by Lucero,
Kloe Williams,
Arianna Topping and
Ava Watson.
Anika Long was 3-for-6 on two-point conversions while Topping was 2-for-3.
"We are so grateful for how God has shown his face through this program over the years and I can't wait to see what the rest of spring '25 has in store," said Mahoney.
Williams was one of nine graduating players the Lopes honored prior to kickoff, along with
Atley Boyd,
Lauren Campbell,
Autumn Coppock,
Angel Lucero,
Angelique Schrock,
Atira Tilghman,
Micaiah Thornton and
Kalyn Wedeven.
The Lopes (5-0 overall) will play their final two matches of the regular season away from home, beginning on Saturday, March 22 against San Diego State University in San Diego, California starting at 11AM.
