Fighting injuries throughout the latter half of the fall season, the
Grand Canyon University Flag Football team were eliminated in the first round of the City of Scottsdale Division 1 Flag Football League Playoffs Tuesday night, 26-0. It was the first time the Lopes had been shut out in a game since the season opener in September. The Lopes finished their fall schedule with a 2-6 overall record.
The Lopes had reasons for optimism about their playoff fates after putting together a two-game winning streak in late October, but injuries depleted the roster over the final three weeks of the season. The Lopes also had aspirations of taking advantage of the fact that the NIRSA Region VI Flag Football Championships were being held in Tempe this year, and were planning on participating last weekend, but the event was cancelled.
The Lopes will take the rest of the fall semester off and begin spring operations in January.
