Keeping momentum rolling.
The Grand Canyon University Men's Club Golf team took the short drive down to Tucson for the first National Collegiate Club Golf Association Desert Regional of the spring, bringing home the team win with an 11-stroke lead. Lopes' senior
Aaron Moore, who has finished in the top four at every tournament this season, continued his hot streak with another first-place individual finish.
The Lopes' 'A' team held a narrow one-stroke lead over Arizona State (B) after one round, much in part thanks to Moore's seven-under-par day. It was the second round where GCU separated from the pack, putting another 10 strokes between themselves and the Sun Devils to finish in first with a team score of 713. Moore cooled down a bit on day two, finishing with an eight-under score of 136, but did enough to edge out GCU's Zach Cozza by one stroke.
"It was a great weekend for
Aaron Moore, who continues to perform well," said GCU Assistant Coach
Mike Mueller. "He's been our experienced veteran this year, much deserving win for the kid."
As Mueller alluded to, Moore has been a consistent top performer for the Lopes this year, never finishing outside the top four and taking home two individual wins in the process.
GCU sophomore
Matthew Reimers (T-4
th) joined Cozza and Moore as the only other Lope in the top 10 with a score of 140.
"This team really understand what it's going to take to win another championship," saidÂ
GCU Head Coach Ryan Woodworth. "The vets have kicked it into another gear and are playing some of the best golf I've seen them play in their careers. They are focused and locked in coming down the stretch, I'm excited to see their hard work unfold."
