A different kind of Santa Ana winds, but still powerful enough to do the damage.
Â
Facing sustained 35-mile-per-hour winds over the final nine holes, the 2
nd-round scores for
Grand Canyon University Men's Club Golf showed it on Day 2 of the 2026 National Collegiate Club Golf Association National Championships, carding a collective 383 (35-over-par) to finish in a tie for 4
th place Sunday afternoon at Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. The fierce conditions on the Twin Warriors Golf Course Sunday afternoon hindered the Lopes into shooting eleven strokes worse than they did playing Saturday at the Santa Ana Golf Club. It also prevented GCU from
finishing among the top two teams in the national tournament for the sixth consecutive time, finishing nine strokes off the pace of 2026 champion University of Georgia, six behind last year's winners, North Carolina State University, and three strokes below 3
rd-place Indiana University.

"Georgia had teed off about two hours ahead of us, so we didn't really notice them until the end," said
Lopes' Head Coach Ryan Woodworth. "For the first nine holes, it really looked like it was going to come down to NC State, Clemson or us. The wind started to become noticeable on about our 7th hole. It became a factor on hole 10, and the course became a complete demolition derby for the teams that were left out there.."
Â
Individually, the Lopes placed a trio of golfers among the tournament's top 30 finishers. Lopes' senior
Zach Cozza ignored the windy conditions Sunday to card a 2
nd-round 73 and jump 36 spots after Day 1 to finish in a tie for 13
th with a five-over 149. One stroke behind Cozza in a glut of golfers tied for 17
th place was GCU freshman phenom
Palmer Coleman, whose consistency over the two days – a 74 on Day 1, 76 Sunday – carded an even 150 (-6) in his first national event. Matching Coleman's Saturday score of 74 with a Sunday 77 was senior
Aaron Moore, whose 7-over-par placed him with eight other golfers in 30
th place. Cozza finished nine strokes off the winning pace of Georgia's David Spahr, who was one of just three golfers to finish under par.
Â
"It was good to see (Zach) bounce back after his first round," said Lopes' Head Coach
Ryan Woodworth. "I think he would have had a career day had the wind held off. I honestly wasn't surprised about Palmer's performance, since it's been there all year, we've seen glimpses of it, and he finally put it together when we needed him.
We have a core group of guys - Palmer, Reimers, Owen, Jack, and Tyler Linum (who got injured just before and couldn't play) - that will be ready to go next year."
