Tempe, Arizona – October 4, 2025
.
Grand Canyon University Club Swimming kicked off their season with a statement team victory, scoring 2,113 total points against Arizona State at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex during the annual Duel in the Pool meet.
The GCU Women secured 1,427 of the Lopes points, much in part due to a clean sweep of the podium in the Women's 200yd Medley Relay. Squad 'A' consisting of
Emma Creager,
Julia Larsen, Maddy Lohse, and
Isabella Parish posted a 1:55.56 time to claim first.
This momentum continued as
Madison Logue and
Lily Wilson claimed first and second place for the Lopes in 100yd IM.
Alexis Hoblet and Creager delivered another first and second place finish in 200yd Freestyle.
The GCU Men had standout swims that clinched first for
Dylan Liu in the 100yd IM and
Tyler Stevenson in the 50yd Breaststroke- who also placed top three in multiple events.
Timothy Kenigsberg finished the meet with critical podium finishes in both sprint freestyle events.
"This meet was a great experience for our team to set baseline times coming into the season and for our new swimmers to establish themselves as part of the team," said Head Coach
Jeremy Phung.
The meet also marked an impressive debut for freshmen Milia Lauret and
Logan Vesey. Lauret showed her speed, winning the 200yd freestyle relay and placing top 5 in the women's 100yd IM. Similarly, Vesey finished 2
nd for the men's 100yd IM but participated in multiple relay and breaststroke events.
"Our mentors created signs and posters for all our new athletes who joined this season," said Phung. "It was a great way to showcase our culture and encouragement for all the new swimmers."
The Lopes freshmen were not the only ones to put up impressive results. Returning Lope and reigning champ,
Isabella Parish, made an early season statement, finishing first in both the 50yd Breaststroke and 100yd Breaststroke, Parish continues to show her commitment to preforming well for herself and her team.
"There is a lot to improve on, which means we can get even faster," said Phung. "I am excited to continue our success at the ACU Invite and hopefully 4-peat in [College Club Swimming] Regionals."
