The Grand Canyon University Men's Club Golf team had a busy month of March, taking on the NCCGA Desert Region's two 2025 Spring tournaments in the span of two weeks, finishing first at both. The first Desert Regional, at the Ken McDonald Golf Course in Tempe, was narrowly won by the Lopes 'A' squad while the second, played at a venue new to GCU in Prescott Valley's Stone Ridge Golf Course, was won by the GCU 'B' team.
Desert Spring Regional 1: March 22-23
GCU's 'A' team paced the field in the first round at the Ken McDonald Golf Course, shooting a six-under 354 while the closely trailing Arizona State University shot 357. GCU sophomore
Angelo Luciani, a common leaderboard topper for the team, led the field with a 67-stroke first round.
The Lopes went shot for shot with the Sun Devils in round two, each shooting a 352 and securing the three-stroke win for GCU. Luciani secured the individual win over the University of Arizona's Sawyer Klein with a crucial par on the last hole of the weekend.
"Our guys played well in Tempe," said GCU Head Coach Ryan Woodworth. "The conditions were great so we knew it would be a competitive weekend, especially with that being ASU's home course."

Desert Spring Regional 2: March 29-30
In their first ever trip to the Stone Ridge Golf Course in Prescott Valley it was the Lopes' 'B' squad that got the team win, shooting 767, while GCU's 'A' team member
Aaron Moore got the individual win with a score of +6.
"It was a combination of tough conditions and unfamiliarity with a new course," said Woodworth. "There were a lot of blind fairways, and the wind was blowing hard all weekend, but our 'B' team played really consistent, and that reflected in their scorecards."
GCU's top team, playing without Luciano and
Dillyn Schmidke for the weekend, found themselves 12 strokes behind their GCU counterparts after a 401-stroke first day, but couldn't close the gap, despite an improved, 380-stroke day two.
