With a four-peat on their minds, Grand Canyon University Club Golf battled their way to a 2
nd-place finish at the National Collegiate Club Golf Association Spring Championship field all weekend in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. It marks the fifth straight NCCGA Championship that the Lopes have placed top-2,
including a three-peat that spanned from the spring of 2023 through the fall of 2024.
The course, the Mission Resort and Golf Club, provided a challenge for the Lopes early as they found themselves fighting uphill to finish fourth after Round 1 behind North Carolina State University.
"Day 1, we played okay, but we left some shots out there that I'm sure we'd want back in hindsight," said GCU Head Coach Ryan Woodworth. "At the end of the round, we were 16 strokes back, so we knew we had an uphill battle ahead."
The Lopes fared much better on Day 2, tying with the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the second-best final round (374 strokes), and leapfrogging both Texas A&M and Keiser University (Florida) to finish second.
"We were only four strokes out of first at [the 17
th hole], which is a par-5 that they call 'Devil's Delight'," Woodworth laughed. "We tried to score on that hole to make up some strokes, but the 'Devil' made us pay a little bit."

"Can't win 'em all, but I'm extremely proud to be a part of this program," said Woodworth. "To go second, first, first, first, and second in our last five [tournaments] is a pretty amazing accomplishment. Our players all work so hard and are really fun to be around."
